Lovelock Relays 2010
Caversham Harriers and Athletics Club, Senior Men's No. 1
team has won the 2010 Lovelock Relays Senior Men's title from
Ariki Harriers and Athletics Club Senior Men's No. 1 team
after a fierce tussle in which the lead changed a few times
with Caversham having the earlier advantage through fine legs
by Glen Ballam and Richard Olsen, until Ariki come back into
the race and took the lead three quarters of the way through
the fifth leg. However, Daniel Balchin took Caversham into
the lead again on the final leg for Caversham to enjoy a comfortable
win in the end. It has been 24 years since Caversham last
held this title, so this was an immense achievement from a
dedicated team of young runners.
Otago University Senior Women's team and Hill City had a
ding-dong tussle right until the last leg with University
winning the Senior Women's title by about 10 metres. A new
record was also set in this race. See report below:
Congratulations to the Women's A team (Hannah Newbould, Andrea
Peat, Grace Fursdon, Barbara Roy), who won a nail-biter against
Hill City at the Lovelocks relays with Hannah setting a new
individual record of 4.35! They also broke the Senior Women's
record set by Hill City last year, with a time of 19.24. The
Men's A team also did really well against strong competition
to finish 4th.
