This year the race was held in perfect conditions, sunny, very warm and no breeze. The race was again held at exactly 12 noon, in which the chimes signal the start of the race. We had a race record this year in the Men’s race with Hill City’s Tom Clendon (48.20), breaking Phil Harrison’s fifteen year old record of 48.30. Clendon held out defending champion James List (49.30) and Hill City’s Shane Renowden (49.71). In the female race Katherine Orme (1.03.58) won comfortably over Julia Taylor (1.07.14) and Rebecca Musre (1.08.12). We had over 30 people compete in the race and approx 50 spectators. The goal of the race is to beat Otago University’s infamous Clock Tower’s midday chimes (or tolls), which last 52.5 seconds.
